5 Things to Consider When Selecting the Right Piping Solutions

by admin

If you have ever been to an industrial location or a manufacturing plant, then I’m sure you must have noticed all the strange-looking pipes running along the walls, ceilings and possibly even underground, forming a complex interconnected network.

Well as you may already know, these pipes are not just for show as they serve a greater purpose when you consider their functionality. This is why choosing the right piping solution in Brisbane is important.

Below, we’ll be sharing some tips that’ll help you make guided decisions when selecting piping solutions in order to ensure consistency in quality in production, and ultimately, a safer working environment.

5 Factors to Consider When Selecting Piping Solutions

  1. Temperature
Pipes are often used to transport liquid substances like water, oil, and sometimes gaseous chemicals, and these substances have varying temperatures. There are usually either extremely hot or cold.

If your pipes aren’t suited to handle such high temperatures, then it could greatly affect the entire purpose they serve, and could also be hazardous to the workers. Pipes that aren’t strong enough to handle high temperatures will get corroded, and ultimately contaminate the substance being transported through them.

When selecting piping solutions in Brisbane you need to consider the temperature level that they can handle. Some of the best materials for handling extremely high temperatures include; PVDF, ATL, PTFE, carbon steel and PP pipe linings.

While piping solutions suited to extremely low temperatures include; aluminium alloys, copper, and high-alloy austenitic stainless steel.

  2. Nature of Substance
The nature of the substance you are transporting plays a significant role in your decision-making.

You need to ask yourself, “What kind of substances will be going through these pipes?” If you can answer that question, then selecting a piping solution should be relatively easy.
Many of these substances being transported through the pipes are often either corrosive or non-corrosive.

Some of such corrosive substances include; crude oil, seawater, ammonia and the like of these. These kinds of substances would require piping solutions that can withstand their corrosive nature. CPVC or line pipes are good choices for these kinds of substances.

However, if you are transporting materials like lube oil, nitrogen and other gases, in that case, it is safe to use metal piping solutions or carbon steel.

  3. Pressure Handling
The substances that can be transported through your piping solutions come with varying levels of pressure which your piping solution may or may not be able to handle.
In this case, your piping solution needs to have either high strength or high thickness. The average pressure that most piping solutions can take is usually about 150 per square inch gauge (PSIG).
If the substances that your piping solution would be handling have more pressure than this, then you might need to ask for piping solutions in Brisbane that are specially designed to handle those levels of pressure.
External factors such as elevation and high temperature can also influence the level of pressure exerted on your pipes.
  4. Maintenance
Consider how often you might have to maintain your pipes. As with most other things, maintenance can be either easy or hard, depending on the nature of what you want to maintain.

If you know that cleaning and making repairs to the pipes regularly will be bothersome, then you’d best consider getting low-maintenance pipes.

You need to consider how easy they would be to clean, how frequently you might need to repair them, and how often emergency repairs would likely arise.

All of these can greatly affect your piping solutions; hence, it’s best to put this into consideration when selecting the right piping solution.

  5. Size of Valve and Fittings
As you consider the kind of pipes you think are best suited to your needs, and as you factor in the nature of the substances to be transported, and how well your piping solutions will handle them, it’s also important to consider the valve and fittings that can be used.

Some piping solutions only have a few valve and fitting sizes to choose from, hence it’s important to take this into consideration as well.
